World's ‘largest' Noah's pudding cooked for peace

Gazİantep, a southeastern city known for a large refugee population and mouth-watering cuisine, was home to a Guinness World Records attempt yesterday, on the occasion of the International Day of Peace. The world's largest Noah's pudding, a dessert believed to date back to the time of the eponymous figure, was cooked in the city as a symbol of peace. Noah's pudding contains a diverse mixture of salty and sweet ingredients, thus symbolizing the unity of people with ethnic, religious and other differences.

A crew of 27 chefs started cooking 3 tons of the dessert, known as aşure in Turkish, on Tuesday under observation of Guinness World Records representatives, in a large cauldron. The pudding was measured as 3 tons and 192 kilos.

Ingredients sent from all across the country and the world, from wheat and nuts to figs and apricots were used in the making of aşure. German Ambassador to Turkey Martin Erdmann poured walnuts into the pudding, saying Chancellor Angela Merkel personally sent the fruit for use in the making of aşure as well as her greetings to Turkey.
