The police chiefs of 61 out of 81 of Turkey's provinces were changed after a major reshuffle went into effect through a cabinet decree issued on Wednesday.
According to the decree published on the Official Gazette, 34 provincial police chiefs were assigned to ministerial positions in Ankara, whereas 24 provincial police chiefs were reassigned to other provinces. Two department heads in the General Directorate of Security were also reassigned to different positions.
Two provincial police chiefs were assigned as deputy director-generals of security, whereas a current deputy director-general was assigned as a chief police inspector.
37 police chiefs were assigned for the first time to provincial police chief positions.
