A group of volunteers in the central Eskişehir province have formed a service that helps to mediate between and reconcile family members and friends having conflict for free.
In the last four months, the so-called apology center has reconciled more than 6,000 people through calls and over 10,000 people have asked for support from the service.
Initially formed on social media and including volunteers from different professionals like physicians, public officers and engineers, the service receives calls from locals of all ages who express remorse for misdeeds and actions that have created a negative effect on others.
The Apology Service intends to help people dealing with the feeling of regret that they experience every day and who are willing to settle things with others they have a problem with. The service has been run since June this year.
İlkay Mustafa Güneş, a volunteer at the Apology Center, said the service can be very busy at times. "We receive calls from family members who are having issues with each other. Sometimes it does not work, but in some calls we receive further requests like organizing special events with music," Güneş added. He said the calls do not only come from Eskişehir where they are currently based but other cities as well.
Each volunteer mediates between the two people at cross and sends the one's regret to the other to settle the things. Güneş said when it is necessary to apologize for something, it's important to get the tone right and they try to talk in a proper way. The service currently has 26 volunteers.
