Sebahattin Kara might have the fastest hands in the world when it comes to tying a necktie.
A tie salesman by profession, Kara can tie a tie in less than two seconds. Though his initial application to Guinness World Records failed, Kara says he will apply again after breaking his own two-second record by tying a necktie in 1.25 seconds.
Kara was not aware of his skill until he worked at a film shooting.
"They were asking the crew if anyone knew how to tie a necktie for a scene involving a crowd of lawmakers. I saw a guy struggling to tie a tie there and decided to step in. I didn't notice I tied [dozens] in a short time when people there gave me amazed looks about how fast I was tying [them]," he said.
In time, he developed his own technique to decrease the time it takes him to tie a necktie. He performed in talent competitions in Turkey and abroad and secured top spots with his feat.
To spice things up, Kara learned how to do it with his hands behind his back.
"My goal is to tie a necktie in less than one second," he says.
Demonstrating his skills on unsuspecting waiters at restaurants, Kara says his ties are "never haphazardly tied."
"It won't come loose quickly. Your tie can become untied in an accident for instance, but this is never the case with ones I tied. They are really solid," he insists.
