Four alleged members of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) terrorist group have been detained in Istanbul dawn raids, police said early Friday.
The anti-terrorism division of the Istanbul Police Department carried out raids after receiving notice that a senior member of the group was preparing for a major attack in the city.
At least four people, including a senior operative identified as Hüseyin K., were apprehended during the operations, according to police.
The police also seized 4 guns, 8 cartridge clips, over 1,000 bullets, as well as some organizational documents.
On Thursday, two Turkish police officers were injured in a gun and grenade attack in the city's Bayrampaşa district, Istanbul's governor said.
Two female assailants said to be involved in the incident were later "neutralized" in a follow-up operation, said Governor Vasip Şahin.
Istanbul police identified the two dead assailants as Çiğdem Yakşi and Berna Yılmaz, both members of the terrorist DHKP-C.
The DHKP-C is also listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and EU.
The group has carried out a number of attacks in Turkey, including a suicide bombing on the U.S. embassy in Ankara and an attack targeting the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul.
