Turkish police detained 16 people in the southeastern province of Adıyaman on Wednesday on suspicion of belonging to the al Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front.
Counter-terrorism police carried out simultaneous raids on 20 locations including in Adıyaman town centre and the Çelikhan district, Anadolu agency said.
It was reported that two of the suspects detained in the operations had previously been to Syria.
The suspects were brought to the hospital for regular health check-ups and were then brought to the police station for testimony.
Turkey designates al-Nusra, which is one of the main parties fighting in the Syrian civil war, as a terrorist organisation.
