The Turkish military dismissed more than 1,000 soldiers, including the masterminds of the failed coup attempt, General Akın Öztürk and General Adem Huduti on Wednesday over their links to the Gülenist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

The Turkish military dismissed more than 1,000 soldiers, including the masterminds of the failed coup attempt, General Akın Öztürk and General Adem Huduti on Wednesday over their links to the Gülenist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

General Akın Öztürk was one of the Supreme Military Council members, while General Adem Huduti was the commander of the Second Army.

In the statement released prior to the Supreme Military Council meeting, which will take place on Thursday, the military also dismissed many other high-ranking officers.

In the land forces command, 87 generals, 726 commissioned officers, and 256 sergeants were dismissed.

In the air forces command, 30 generals, 314 commissioned officers, and 117 sergeants were dismissed while 32 admirals, 59 commissioned officers and 63 sergeants were dismissed from the naval forces command.

As part of the ongoing operations to remove Gülenist pro-coup soldiers from the military, the Defense Ministry appointed Van Gendarmerie Lieutenant General İsmail Metin Temel as the Second Army Commander on Wednesday, replacing General Adem Huduti, who was detained in Malatya province after the failed coup attempt.

Meanwhile, three news agencies, 16 TV channels, 23 radio stations, 45 newspapers were also closed due to their links to FETÖ amid state of emergency.
