An anti-government rally held by Alevi groups in Germany was hijacked by PKK sympathizers over the weekend, resulting in scuffles with the German police.
PKK militants, waving banners praising the jailed leader of the terrorist group, Abdullah Öcalan, ignored warnings to stop provocations. After the group started to hurl around flammable material, the police intervened.
The German police broke up the group with batons and tear gas, detaining eight PKK militants and charging 30 more. One female police officer was said to have sustained injuries after being attacked.
