A police officer was killed, another police was injured during clashes between security forces and PKK terrorists in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, the governorate said Sunday.
According to a statement released by the Hakkari governor, the incident took place in Şemdinli district.
The injured police officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, and is currently receiving treatment at Hakkari State Hospital.
An extensive operation has been launched against the PKK in the region, the statement added.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians.
