Some 53 senators -- all 51 Democrats and two independents who usually vote with them -- signed a letter on Wednesday saying they will not vote for House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner's debt plan.
The House on Thursday is expected to vote on Boehner's debt bill, which would cut spending by $917 billion over 10 years and also raise the debt ceiling by up to $900 billion.
