Three big Global System for Mobile (GSM) firms in Turkey have decided to establish a joint firm in order to ameliorate redundancy in telecommunication infrastructure, paving the way for the telecommunication sector's enhanced competitiveness.
Turkcell Chairman Kaan Terzioğlu, Vodafone CEO Gökhan Öğüt and Türksat Chairman Cenk Şen met yesterday, and took an important step to improve infrastructure, which will significantly increase the competitiveness of the sector on a global scale.
While this joint step was long-awaited, the three GSM firms expressed that their shared aim is efficient use and further development of existing telecom sector infrastructure, such that resources from now on will not be wasted in redundant investments.
As a result of the establishment of the joint firm, one fiber infrastructure will be available for common use. This common use will result in an annual saving of TL 13 billion ($4.29 billion).
