Non-profit organizations in the U.S. promoting better understanding between the Americans and Turkish people, released a "unity" message on Thursday in which they invited people to gather in front of the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. on Friday, July 24 for a peaceful demonstration against terrorism.
The demonstration will be held between 12.00 and 2.00 p.m. According to the statement, the aim of the demonstration is to condemn the recent terrorist attack in Suruç which was allegedly carried out by the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) terrorist organization. The rally will be held with the mottos, "Come with your flag" and "We stand with Turkey against terrorism", according to the statement.
According to Sultan Magazine, the decision to hold a demonstration against terrorism came after it was learned that a pro-Kurdish group blaming Turkey for the attacks was going to stage a protest in Washington. After it was learned that the pro-Kurdish group wanted to hold protests in front of the Turkish embassy to accuse Turkey of supporting ISIS, many Turkish nationals organized a counter-protest in front of the embassy.
The terrorist attack took the lives of 32 people and injured more than 100 on Monday in the Suruç district of Turkey's southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, which is located about 10 kilometers north of the Syrian town of Kobani. The attack that took place at the garden of Amara Culture Center of the Suruç Municipality was caused by a suicide bomber according to the Şanlıurfa governor.
Pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) officials and supporters have accused Turkey countless times of supporting ISIS, even though Turkey has proved it is not, and Turkish top officials have stated many times that Turkey can never be involved in any support towards any terrorist organization regardless of its ideology.
