Gathering authors and poets from different European countries, the 54th edition of Sarajevo Poetry Days has recently started with an opening ceremony at the city's national library. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dzevad Karahasan, the president of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Association of Authors, said that 50 authors and poets from European countries will discuss literature for five days.
"I believe our guests will spend productive days as they come from different cultures and languages," he said. Aside from Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia, there are also authors and poets from Sweden and Germany. There will be literature events and student workshops as well. The first edition of Sarajevo Poetry Days took place in 1962 to protect the literary heritage of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The event even took place during the 1992 to 1995 Bosnian War.
