Istanbul Modern's last event for the "Harbor" exhibition, "On the Trail of Harbors," is being organized together with ÇEKÜL Bilgi Ağacı. The event relates to modern and contemporary art's take on harbors and is set to take place on July 6 and July 13, taking participants on a journey through the industrial heritage of harbors and port locations.
The exhibition offers a selection of paintings, architecture, models, etchings, drawings, photographs, videos and installations from 34 artists and collectives.
Firstly, the concept of "industrial heritage" will be discussed with group works and an interactive presentation at the program is designed by ÇEKÜL Bilgi Ağacı. Then, at the "Harbors in Time" and "Stories on the trail of the Harbor" sections based on the exhibition, participants will set up their own narratives on the transformation of Istanbul's harbors.
"Harbors in Time" participants will go on a journey with a map to discover the change in the Tophane-Karaköy district where Istanbul Modern is located and the urban transformations in the history of the city around the timeline prepared for the exhibition.
"Stories on the trail of the Harbor" will offer a selection starting with Mıgırdich Givanian's "Istanbul" painting looking at the windows of harbors opening onto the city and urban life from the beginning of the 1900s to 2017. Participants will become both the witness and the narrator of stories that will end up with themselves.
The program ends with a farewell event held in the garden of the museum which also hosts the "Baştarda" ship, manufactured at Haliç dockyard for the Turkish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale - a project that serves as a "reminder that no borders can be set on water, the carrier of the Mediterranean's stories."
The "Harbor" exhibition, which tells of the cultural and social life developed on the shores and around the harbors of Turkey from the 19th century until today from the perspective of artists, can be visited at the Istanbul Modern's Current Exhibitions Hall until July 20.
