Exports fell 1.5 pct, prices in Istanbul rose 0.86 pct

Exports totaled $12.4 billion in October, a decrease of 1.5 percent and were at $119.6 billion from January to October from $130.9 billion in the same period last year, a decline of 8.6 percent, the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM) said yesterday. Turkey's total exports in the last 12 months stood at $146 billion, down from $158.3 billion within the same period last year. Also, October retail prices in Istanbul increased 1.61 percent while the overall prices rose 0.86 percent. The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) announced that the Cost of Living Index for Wage Earners, based on 1995 metrics, rose 10.1 percent while the Wholesale Price Index increased 9.52 percent annually. Compared to the same month of the previous year, retail prices in Istanbul increased 8.01 percent and the overall prices increased 7.38 percent.
