A total of 300 component manufacturing projects as part of the National Fighter Aircraft Project are slated to begin soon. The fighter aircraft, which will be manufactured as a part of the project to meet the fighter aircraft requirements of the Turkish Air Forces, is planned to fly for the first time in 2023, and the aim is to put it into full operation by the 2030s.
The national fighter aircraft will have the latest technology and feature new generation capabilities such as longer range, higher maneuverability, supersonic flight, national ammunition integration, sensitive engagement abilities and low visibility sights.
Considering the technological development projects and future infrastructure, national fighter aircraft component manufacturing is depicted as a technological achievement that will elevate Turkey, both militarily and politically. As well as manufacturing a fighter aircraft, the project will pave the way for large technological development along with infrastructure and new, emerging firms.
The Scientific and Technologic Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Small and Medium-size Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB) are expected significantly contribute to the aircraft project's financial requirements. Such contributions are important for the infrastructural systems required to ensure the success of the National Fighter Aircraft Project, along with system-based projects and cooperation models. The final project definitions will be made through 300 draft projects that were completed by the project management team during the financing period for the national fighter aircraft. The project has a variety of components, including wind tunnels, avionics systems, target recognition systems, image processing technologies, material technologies and new generation weapon systems. After designating the amount of funds required for the aircraft components, the project will be given to at least two firms willing to compete to manufacture it. In this context, at least 1,000 project teams will be formed. When the biddings for the announced projects are approved by the project management team, it will be submitted to TÜBİTAK and KOSGEB. After their approvals, the funds will be freed and allocated.
