Turkish Airlines (THY) has signed an agreement with Panasonic on the procurement of 167 narrow-body aircrafts, in-flight entertainment and Internet connection systems. According to the THY Press Agency, the airline preferred Panasonic Avionics Corporation's (Panasonic) advanced eX1 in-flight entertainment and communication system (IFEC) and Global Communication Systems for new narrow-body aircrafts.
Passengers will be able to access eight different global channels, including news broadcasts specially prepared by the Turkish national news agency, Anadolu Agency, TRT World news channel and the Sport 24 channel. As part of the agreement, until THY's first operations in Istanbul's third airport start, Panasonic will establish a media center and a team of creative services to provide special services to the global airline brand.
Elaborating on the agreement, THY Chairman M. İlker Aycı said, "In addition to providing a reliable system for our passengers, we needed a new and different solution to achieve the perfect flight concept that would give maximum comfort to our passengers in every sense." He added, with Panasonic Avionics' "valuable" support, THY has taken another step in its journey to offering a unique travel experience to its passengers. According to Aycı, they combined the largest game library in the industry with the best audio and video quality and prepared a tailor-made interface in order to offer the best video experience to its passengers. "This has gained weight as the most suitable profile for our flag carrier," he said.Highlighting that their partnership with THY is a long-term and strategic one, Paul Margis, the general manager of Panasonic Avionics Corporation, said, "With a view to enabling THY to achieve its 2023 goals by providing supportive services and goods, we hope to work in close collaboration with the company."
