Efforts on domestic natural gas and oil production continue "without slowing down," Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Sunday, as his ministry shared details on output in the first half of the year.

Accordingly, Türkiye's domestic oil production reached 23.1 million barrels in the first six months of the year, while natural gas production exceeded 1.6 billion cubic meters (bcm), the ministry said in a written statement.

The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said its work to bring domestic and national resources, particularly oil from the Gabar field and natural gas from the Black Sea, into the economy is continuing at full speed.

In this context, total domestic oil production during the first half of the year was recorded at 23.1 million barrels. Of this, 21.8 million barrels were produced through the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), while Gabar accounted for the largest share, at 60% of total production, the statement said.

Moreover, during the January-June period, natural gas production surpassed 1.641 billion cubic meters. TPAO accounted for 1.608 billion cubic meters of this production, while private-sector companies produced the remaining 33 million cubic meters (mcm).

Sakarya Gas Field, the flagship field on the country's northern coast, had 92% share of total production, according to the ministry.

"While we are increasing our oil production by opening new wells in Gabar, we will also double our natural gas production in the Black Sea this year," Bayraktar said in the statement.

"Our domestic oil and natural gas production will continue to increase," he added.

Bayraktar also pointed out that Türkiye is carrying out oil and natural gas activities not only domestically but also abroad.

"Part of our vision of a ‘Fully Independent Türkiye in Energy’ is our initiatives overseas," he noted.

"Our oil and natural gas production continues abroad through the partnerships we have established. In addition, we are conducting drilling operations in Somalia, and in Libya, we have obtained licenses for two fields, one offshore and one onshore," he stated.

"Most recently, we reached an agreement concerning Iraq and became partners in five fields in Kirkuk, which are estimated to contain 3 billion barrels of oil reserves," he added.

"Türkiye is now a country that plays a role in shaping the global energy landscape, conducting exploration and production both domestically and abroad."
