Six foreign films debut this week

Timbuktu

Directed by Abderrahmane Sissako, "Timbuktu" competed for the Palme d'Or at the 67th Cannes Film Festival and was nominated at the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The film stars Ibrahim Ahmed, Toulou Kiki, Abel Jafri and Fatoumata Diawara, and takes its name from Mali's city of Timbuktu. Sissako's film recounts life in a conservative society.


Foxcatcher


Starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgirave and Sienna Miller, the film is directed by Bennet Miller. Inspired by a true story, "Foxcatcher" is focused on the dark and enchanting relationship between an eccentric millionaire and two wrestler brothers.

Mr. Turner

Focusing on the last 25 years of British painter J. M. W. Turner's life, the film is set in the 19th century. The well-known painter's travels and art as well as love and sexual adventures are projected on the silver screen. Directed by Mike Leigh, "Mr. Turner" stars Timothy Spall, Paul Jesson, Dorothy Atkinson and Marion Bailey


Mortdecai


Directed by David Koepp, "Mortdecai" is one of the most anticipated films of 2015. Known for the interested characters that he portrays, Johnny Depp gives life to the broke British aristocrat Charlie Mortdecai. The action-comedy film, which has been adapted to film from Kyril Bonfiglioli's popular trilogy, stars Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and Olivia Munn.

Seventh Son

John Gregory, who is a seventh son of a seventh son, the local spook and last standing warrior of a mystical order, has protected those around him from all magical and mystical things. However, as he gets older, John searches for a boy whose birth was foreseen by sorcerers. His last hope is a young farmer's son named Thomas Ward who is a hero born with outstanding powers. Ripped from his simple and quite life, the young hero embarks on an adventure to beat the supernatural assassin army that is sent by the Dark Queen. Directed by Sergey Bodrov, the 3-D film stars Jeff Bridges, Antje Traue, Kit Harington, Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander and Ben Barnes.

Der 7bte Zwerg
(The Seventh Dwarf)


"Der 7bte Zwerg" is a German 3-D animated production co-directed by Boris Aljinovic and Harald Siepermann. The film focuses on Princess Rose who was cursed by the evil witch Dellamorta when she was a baby. Before she turns 18, Rose will get stung on the finger by a sharp object and she and the whole castle will fall into a hundred yearlong sleep unless her true love kisses her. Before her birthday, she sends her boyfriend Jack to hide with the Seven Dwarfs so that she can be saved with his kiss. When the evil witch captures him, the dwarfs set off on a journey to save Jack so that he can save the princess.
