Khojaly massacre on the silver screen for three days

by Zeynep Esra İstanbullu

As part of the Justice for Khojaly (JFK) campaign supported by the European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS), the documentary film "Endless Corridor," which is narrated by Academy Award-winning British actor Jeremy Irons, will be screened at the Kanyon, Cevahir and Palladium shopping malls from Feb. 24 to Feb. 26. Leyla Aliyeva initiated the widely supported campaign in 2008 as an international awareness-raising project to bring peace and justice in the mountainous Karabagh region. The documentary portrays the Khojaly massacre that occurred on the night of Feb. 25, 1992. To commemorate the killing of 613 Azerbaijani civilians on its 23rd anniversary, the free film session will take place first at the Kanyon Shopping Mall. The special documentary not only deals with the bloody conflict, but also features stories of bravery, survival and sacrifice. It reveals the facts behind the killing of vulnerable Azerbaijani civilians by Armenian and Russian soldiers in the small village of Khojaly. On that night, hundreds of people were killed and 10,000 people became homeless. The documentary sheds light on the humanitarian story of a musician who survived his 50 neighbors, but lost his wife and was tortured for months. Viewers will also see a mother who was about to lose her newborn until a famed Russian journalist, who covered the war, helped her. The producers gather the victims and heroes of the war for the first time along with the witnesses and attackers. The lessons that viewers will learn from the documentary are associated with today's conflicts and biased perceptions. "Endless Corridor" was produced by Jeremy Irons, Emmy-winner Gerald Rafshoon and director Aleksandras A. Brokas. Interested viewers are required to register on Eventbrite. The film will be shown at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
