The message is loud and clear: The coalition of terrorists who have been targeting Turkey in 2016 will continue their assault against us in 2017.
They unleashed a bloodbath in Istanbul in the early hours of the new year when a lone gunman raided a nightclub in Istanbul killing 39 people and wounding scores of others.
Until now terrorist groups like the Kurdish secessionist PKK, the so-called Islamic State's Daesh, the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) led by Fethullah Gülen, which tried to stage a coup in Turkey, and the left-wing Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) have been staging bloody terrorist events in Turkey. It is clear that these groups are acting under the coordination of foreign forces to destabilize the government and create the impression that Turkey is in a hopeless unmanageable situation.
Why? Because the Turkish administration led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is following an independent policy that at times falls at odds with Western interests. Some Western circles seem to be making a concerted effort to depose Erdoğan and are using terrorism to undermine his administration.
The attack on the nightclub in the early hours of 2017 is a stark reminder that the assault against Turkey will continue this year.
Each terrorist attack targets a part of our society with the aim of driving a wedge between the various groups in the society.
This time the target is the high society of Turkey that likes celebrating the new year, which the conservatives regard as a Christian tradition. Thus they target those who opt to celebrate the new year with fan fair and create the image that the Islamists of Turkey are behind the bloodbath. This is a sinister act as well as futile attempt to divide this country. No one will fall for this ploy.
It only sharpens the resolve of the Turkish administration to combat terrorism and get to the sources of these terrorist attacks.
Turkey has cornered Daesh in al-Bab in Syria and is about to take the city with the help of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). This means Daesh has the motivation to hit back at Turkey and the Istanbul nightclub on New Year's.
The perpetrator of this attack could also be a hired hand by the FETÖ terrorist group to undermine the Turkish government.
What is important at this stage is the fact that Turkey and Russia are stepping on too many toes both in the Middle East and in the West and thus there are those who want to stall Ankara and Moscow and the best way is terrorism.
Thanks to Turkish-Russian cooperation the people of Aleppo have been saved from massacre. Thanks to the two countries a general cease-fire has been declared in Syria.
Moscow and Ankara have to be aware that there will be others who will try to undermine their peaceful efforts to embarrass them. They should not be deterred by these attempts and should carry on with their peace efforts.
