Some credit debts of merchants and craftsmen in the Soma and Kırkağaç districts of Manisa will be deferred for a year without charging interest since their businesses were damaged due to the Soma mining disaster in which 301 miners died. The decision was published in the official gazette. According to this decision, the credit debts of merchants and craftsmen that were deferred before will be deferred for another year as of May 13, 2015, without charging interest after they make a written request to Halkbank. Additionally, the remaining installments will be deferred for a year in accordance with credit repayment schedules.
Requests concerning deferring debts should be submitted to the bank within one month. Right after the disaster, the credit debts of merchants and craftsmen in the districts were deferred for a year as of May 13, 2014. Similarly, private banks, including ING Bank, İş Bankası, Aktifbank, Akbank, Şekerbank, Türk Ekonomi Bank and Türkiye Finans, issued statements that underscored they would clear the credit card debts of the miners who died in the accident.
