The 8th Turkey Investment Conference held in New York

The 8th of Turkey Investment Conference was held on Sept. 21, in New York City in cooperation with DEİK, DEİK/TAİK and Citibank. Turkish Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, DEİK's President Ömer Cihad Vardan, DEİK/TAİK's President Ekim Alptekin and Serra Akçaoğlu, CEO at Citibank Turkey participated the Conference along with American and Turkish business representatives.
In his opening remarks at the Conference, Turkish Minister of Economy Zeybekci said: "Turkish economy is now at such a stage that it can be called a miracle after the coup attempt". Minister Zeybekci also mentioned that although massive setbacks were predicted, the financial and banking system proved resilient on the first business day after the July 15 overthrow attempt. The Turkish economy has reached an average annual growth rate of above 5 percent since the 2008 global financial, said Minister Zeybekci, and the country's government debt ratio to national income is better than 25 countries of the 28-EU Member States, he added.
"We are one of the highest amount of natural gas consuming countries in the world with more than 50 billion cubic meters a year" said Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak at the Conference. Minister Albayrak also highlighted that Turkey has to create some alternatives, like additional pipelines. Energy and Natural Resources Minister also stressed to Turkey's strategic position in the region with its neighbors holding rich oil and gas reserves.
"We are not happy with the volume of trade between Turkey and the US" DEİK's President Vardan said at his opening speech. "We have a lot to offer. Turkey is open for business and will support global growth with patience," he added. President Vardan also stressed, Turkey has continued to grow, invest and receive foreign direct investment despite the 2008 financial crisis. Ekim Alptekin, DEİK/TAİK's President also emphasized that the Turkish economy showed resilience against the 2008 financial crisis. He also highlighted the extreme resilience in the volatile environment as the result of good economic policies in Turkey. President Alptekin called for more bilateral trade and said more could be done to strengthen economic times between two nations.
