Turkey's unemployment rate increased to 11.3 percent in August with an increase of 1 percentage point compared to same month last year, Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) announced Thursday. The unemployment rate remained the same on monthly basis.
The number of the unemployed aged 15-years-old and over was 3.523 million with an increase of 420,000.
The number of the employed was 27.564 million in September. The employment rate was 46.8 percent without any change, despite an increase of 408,000 people for the number of employed people.
In the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate was 13.7 percent with a 1.3 percentage point increase. Youth unemployment rate for the age group between ages 15 and 24 was 19.9 percent with a 1.4 percentage point increase, whereas the unemployment rate for the age group between ages 15 and 64 was 11.6 percent with a 1.1 percentage point increase.
Turkey's labor force increased by 828.000 and reached 31.087 million, with the labor force participation rate (LFPR) reaching 52.8 percent with 0.7 percentage point increase. LFPR for males was 72.5 percent without any change while the rate for females was 33.5 percent with 1.2 percentage point increase.
The share of unregistered employment slightly decreased by 0.2 percentage point to 34.6 percent.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate was 46.4 percent with 0.4 percentage point increase, while unemployment rate was 11.3 percent with 0.1 percentage point decrease.
