KONYA — AK Party candidate Fatma Toru has come out the victor of Konya's central Meram district according to unofficial results. This win makes the 42-year-old ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate, Fatma Toru, the first-ever headscarf-donning municipal mayor in Turkey.

Born in Konya in 1972, Fatma Toru graduated from the Engineering-Architecture Department as well as the Mapping and Cadastral Engineering department. Toru, who is currently employed at the Meram Municipality in the Central Anatolian province of Konya, is also married and a mother of two.
