Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş has said that the greatest achievement of the AK Party in the past thirteen years was to re-install hope, faith and confidence in Turkish people, which he said were a vital aspect for the development of the country.
Speaking in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, Kurtulmuş highlighted that having confidence and faith was crucial to achieve many of developments carried out by the AK Party during their term.
"A nation cannot achieve anything if they cannot say 'we can do it" he said, adding that it was not easy to achieve Turkey's current status in terms of economic and political development and reforms.
Kurtulmuş said that confidence was an inseperable part of the road to success and progress.
The Deputy PM added that the second most important achievement that the AK Party has achieved was to ensure cohesion between the state and the nation.
"In the past 150 years, the state and the nation have never been on the same page." Kurtulmuş said, adding that the priorities of the state and the nation have greatly differed, and the people have been intimidated by the state to a large extent. He noted that the coups have attempted to forcefully create a single type of an "ideal" citizen, and has prohibited the existence of anyone who did not fall into this description.
"The state no longer looks down on its people" Kurtulmuş said, adding that bureaucrats are now a part of the people's lives and interact with the public on a daily basis, whereas before they would live a secluded life away from the issues and concerns of the people.
Kurtulmuş also emphasized that it is crucial for all people regardless of their political ideologies to have the same civilizational values and goals and to embrace one another under this framework.
