The Petroleum Pipeline Corporation focuses on supply security by diversifying its alternative resources and connecting natural gas pipelines in the country
The Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ) will carry natural gas to the Turkey-Iraq border via the Şırnak Natural Gas Pipeline, of which construction is targeted to begin in the second half of 2015. BOTAŞ is continuing its natural gas transmission lines with the aim of diversifying alternative energy resources and connecting natural gas pipelines in the country with a network.
To this end, with investments in pipelines, BOTAŞ is aiming to popularize the use of low-emission and high-efficiency natural gas across the country as well as carrying natural gas to all consumption points in the country. BOTAŞ is also aiming to stave off the "take or pay" liability which will arise from bargain and sale agreements as of 2015, minimizing the possible disparity that may be encountered.
BOTAŞ, in this context, is intending to actualize the Şırnak Natural Gas Pipeline Project, of which land surveys, mapping and expropriation tenders were completed. The project will start from the 101-centimeter-diameter Mardin Natural Gas Pipeline, which is under construction currently and will reach the Turkey-Iraq border passing through the provinces of Mardin, Savur, Midyat, Nusaybin, İdil, Cizre and Silopi.
The status of highways, energy transmission lines, irrigation canals and creeks that will coincide with this pipeline will be determined through consultations with relevant institutions. BOTAŞ will pay for private territories through which the pipeline will pass. An average of a 26-meter-wide corridor is planned to be used for the pipeline.
It is intended that the construction tender of the project will be made in the second half of 2015 and finished within 24 months, after project engineering studies are completed. The economic duration of the pipeline is expected to be 20 years. Two-hundred employees will be recruited during the construction phase.
