Turkey's energy imports drop by 31 pct in July

Turkey's energy imports dropped by 31 percent in July compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the total amount of energy imports to Turkey was recorded at $14.64 billion with a 19.7 percent drop in July 2016.

Of the said amount, roughly $2.1 billion consisted of mineral fuels, mineral oils and distilled products; namely, bituminous substances as well as mineral waxes. While these products are considered energy imports, they are also covered under Chapter 27.

The cost of Turkey's energy imports in July 2015 stood at roughly$3.1 billion dropping to $2.1 billion this year marking a 31 percent decrease. On the other hand, the import of crude oil decreased 6.9 percent in July compared to the previous year, at 2,337,286 tons.
