Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun, Turkey has opened an insect museum. It showcases more than 100,000 different insects that were collected over the course of 10 years.
Experts from Ondokuz Mayıs University have collected the hundreds of insect species on display at the museum from all over Turkey. Before they are sent to the museum, the collected specimens are first sorted at the university's entomology labs.
The specimens at the museum are especially helpful for the faculty of agriculture students. Dr. İslam Saruhan, an assistant professor at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Agriculture, said that the museum will soon be opened to the public as the number of specimens at the museum grows.
"We collect insects from all over Turkey. Instructors, as well as students, are helping us enlarge our collection of insects. We hope to open the museum to the public soon so people can have an idea about the smaller creatures of our planets," Saruhan said.
