63 unaccompanied refugee children have disappeared without a trace from Denmark's Gribskov Refugee Center, Regional Director of the Children's Center in Red Cross said on Wednesday.
Caroline Madsen said that that they have received a very large group of unaccompanied refugee children last week. "Among the 143 children there was a large group of Afghan boys aged between 15-17. They have traveled through Europe together and know each other well, and they are comfortable together." Madsen added.
She stressed that the group that left was large because they had a destination other than Denmark. "After the children decided to leave, the center cannot do much to make them stay. Our job is to give them food, clean clothes and a place to sleep, and in this case also to make sure that they received help."
The officials said that the recent refugee surge has become an opportunity for some gangs in Denmark. The gangs are making large amounts of money through assisting the refugees during their journey to Europe. The Denmark police recently conducted raids to arrest people for human smuggling.
