The Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) has called for solidarity with Muslim communities in the fight against terror.
The ZdK wanted to "work together with Muslims against the perversion of Islam to justify terror and murder," the president of the ZdK, Thomas Sternberg, said, the German language regional daily newspaper "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" on Monday.
What goes on under the title "Islamic State" [another name for Daesh], was "not Islam", he stressed.
Terrorist groups such as Daesh subject Muslims to great sufferance and create a wrong and negative perception of Islam.
Many Islam scholars have repeatedly emphasized that Islam encourages loving God's creation for the sake of the creator and discourages hostility based on differences.
In nations with significant Muslim populations, there is much disdain for Daesh. According to data released by the Pew Research Center in November, those interviewed in 11 countries with significant Muslim populations, expressed their negative attitudes towards Daesh. In none of the countries, did more than 15% of the population show favorable views for the group.
