Germany searching for almost 10,000 missing people

Federal police in German are currently looking for 9,780 missing people within the country, according to official data.

Almost two-thirds of those recorded as missing by the Federal Criminal Office are male.

Officials removed between 250 and 300 missing-person reports daily, while roughly the same number of new entries were made, according to the latest statistics dated October 1, 2015.

In 80 per cent of cases, the person showed up within a month of the police being alerted to their disappearance. Only around 3 per cent are still missing after a year.

The total number of missing persons was much higher at 11,711 and includes German people who were last seen abroad.
