A poll by ORB for The Independent newspaper showed that the "Leave" camp was 10 points ahead of "Remain" with less than two weeks to go before Britain's referendum on whether to stay in the European Union, hitting Britain's foreign exchange and stock markets on Friday.
It was the biggest lead enjoyed by those wanting Britain to quit the 28-member bloc since the poll series started a year ago, The Independent said.
The pound fell against the euro following the news, hitting session lows and last trading down 1 percent. It also hit session lows against the dollar and was last down about 1.5 percent soon after the poll was released.Major U.S. stock averages extended losses after the poll's release, and the Dow Jones industrial average last traded about 0.9 percent lower.
