A fire at a refugee shelter in Austria on Monday injured three adults and five children from Syria, police said.

One man was seriously injured, while the others suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation.

A technical fault is believed to have caused the blaze at the shelter in the town of Melk, west of Vienna.

The municipality has organized a replacement accommodation for the refugees.
