SETEM Academy is commemorating writer, director and actor Yılmaz Güney's 30th death anniversary with a film week until Sept. 14. During the event, Güney's films will be screened and discussed. "Umut" (Hope) will be screened today at 6:00 p.m. Written and directed by Güney, the film stars Güney, Tuncel Kurtiz, Osman Alyanak and Gülsen Alnıaçık. "Zavallılar" (The Poor Ones), written by Güney and codirected by Atıf Yılmaz and Güney, will be screened at 8:00 p.m. The film stars Yılmaz Güney, Yıldırım Önal, Güven Sengil and Seden Kızıltunç. A Q&A session will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15 with Ahmet Çadırcı, Serdal Dogan and Güney's assistant, Ahmet Soner, who is also the director of "The Documentary of Yılmaz Güney." Following the session, Arkadas" (Friend) will be screened at 6:00 p.m., and stars Yılmaz Güney, Melike Demirag ve Kerim Avsar. "Duvar" (The Wall), written and directed by Güney, will be screened at 8:00 p.m.
The film stars Tuncel Kurtiz, Ayse Emel Mesci, Nicollas Hossein and Isabella Tisandier. On Sept. 14, "Agıt" (Requiem) will be screened at 6:00 p.m. as the last film of the commemoration. Written and directed by Güney, the film stars Yılmaz Güney, Sermin Hürmeriç and Hayati Hamzaoglu. All screenings are free of charge.
