German metal band Haggard will fill Istanbulites with metal and mirth on May 14 at Küçükçiftlik Park. Founded in 1991 in Germany, Haggard and its 16 members released their first album "And Thou Shalt Trust…The Seer" and received thumbs up from the music critics with their extraordinary sound, which blended metal with classical and symphonic elements.
Three years later, they released their second studio album "Awaking the Centuries" with 21 members and became the first group that mixed rock, metal and classical music. Their songs in English, German and Latin portrayed Europe of the medieval times as well as philosophers and movements of thought with theatrical language. Their live concert in Mexico, which was a part of their sold out North American tour in 2001, was also released on DVD and titled "Awaking the Gods."
Their acclaimed third album "Eppur Si Muove" (Planet Earth) caused a stir in the music world as well. Haggard portrays famous mathematician and philosopher Galileo's fight against the Roman Catholic Church in their lyrics, and made a name for themselves with the literary quality of their lyrics. They focused on historical characters and stories in their latest studio album "Tales of Ithira," which was released in 2008. The metal band Athor will open for Haggard. Those who admire rock and metal music as well as experimental and high-quality music should save the date.
