Operating under Kadir Has University, Galeri KHAS opens its new season with Eda Soylu's "Constructing the House Anew" exhibition curated by Professor Hasan Bülent Kahraman.
Based on the demolition and reconstruction of the idea of a place and specifically the house concept, Eda Soylu's project is an installation formed inside the gallery. Consisting of structural materials collected from the wreckage of different houses and elements dismantled from the artist's own house and brought to the gallery, the installation features the demolition and reconstruction of the concepts of house, household and place.
Soylu also brings visitors into a complicated and conflicted action by applying live and dried plants integrated with concrete and asking the visitors to destroy this structure by trampling on it.
The curator of the exhibition Prof. Hasan Bülent Kahraman says Soylu's exhibition is a direct intervention to the urbanization period we are currently experiencing, through individual memories, and it forces us to live the joint story of ours and others, stressing that this is a complete experience and performance. He describes Soylu's work as a structure that is open to layered and multiple readings.
