Nova Muzak concert series has been launched by Borusan Sanat and KOD Music and continues with the concert of Rob Mazurek and Josef van Wissem. During the concert, which is scheduled to take place on Nov. 11 at Borusan Music House, Mazurek and van Wissem will introduce new interpretations to tropicalia and Medieval Age music, respectively. Mazurek is a very productive and creative musician. He manages to create a broad electro-acoustic palette by adding computer programming, electronics and an assortment of keyboards to his music. He was voted "Musician of the Year" by Italy's top jazz magazine, "Musica Jazz!", and now he is ready to blow Istanbulites' minds at the Borusan Music House with his recent project "Sao Paulo Underground."
This project takes tropicalia, which reached its golden age in the 70s, and adds electronica and avant-jazz to reach a truly original combination. This post-modern orchestra's performances present power and beauty simultaneously. Before this mind-blowing performance, the audience, however, will meet Dutch lutenist and post-minimalist composer Jozef van Wissem who adapts and interprets music written for the lute after the 1600s. He has been actualizing joint projects with James Blackshaw, Gary Lucas, Jim Jarmusch and Tetuzi Akiyama since the 2000s and was rewarded at the Cannes Film Festival 2013 for the music he composed for Jim Jarmusch's latest film "Only Lovers Left Alive." With his performance, Istanbulite music lovers will have a chance to get a closer look to the music of van Wissem who caused a stir with his debut album "Retrograde Renaissance Lute: A Classical Deconstruction."
