Masterpiece silent films on screen at Akbank Sanat

Akbank Sanat brings classic milestones from world cinema and silent films to the screen as part of the International Silent Film Days until Dec. 18. As part of the event, director Hans Werckmeister's 1920 "Algol: The Tragedy of Power" featuring a masterpiece performance by Emil Jannings, a legend of the silent film era. The demonic star Algol reaches the world and gives Robert Henne, a miner, the power to rule the world. Henne declares that there will be no need to waste lives slaving in coalmines because he is capable of creating a power station to generate enough energy for the whole world. Having built it, he obtains absolute power over a society that becomes completely dependent on him.
