Sakıp Sabancı Museum welcomes spring with all-day-long arts program

Since 2002 when it first opened to visitors, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum has hosted the exhibitions of many accomplished artists including Monet, Picasso, Rembrandt, Salvador Dali, Anish Kapoor, Joan Miro and many others and will now hold a one-day event in honor of its 15th anniversary this spring on May 13.

The museum has organized a special day full of events it is traditionally known for, starting with a yoga session at 9 a.m. and continuing with many other artistis events, which will be concluded with a concert by Ayhan Sicimoğlu & Latin All Stars in the evening.

Outdoor yoga


Yoga instructor Duygu Bingöl from Cihangir Yoga will hold a yoga session at 9 a.m. on the shores of the Bosporus, offering a heavenly view of the sea and open to participants of all levels. Participants are expected to bring their own yoga mats for the class.

Workshops for children

Carried out in the scope of SSM exhibitions up until today, all the children workshops will be combined at the 15th anniversary events between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.


The workshops were created in the context of previous SSM exhibitions and will include, "Picasso in Istanbul," "Salvador Dali: A Surrealist in Istanbul," "Genghis Khan and his Heirs," "Across," "Joan Miro: Women, Birds and Stars," "Venice and Istanbul during the Ottoman Period: Love, By. ...," "Feyhaman Duran: Between Two Worlds" and works of arts including calligraphy. The workshops are open to children between the ages of six and 12.

Uninvited jazz band

Do you want to go back to the New Orleans of the 1920s and experience the music that inspired swing dancing? The Uninvited Jazz Band, known for its street performances with swing jazz and blues, will be at SSM all day long with four concerts.

Exhibition tour

The exhibition "Feyhaman Duran: Between Two Worlds," which is open to visitors until July 30 will be open via special tours held within the context of the 15th anniversary events. As one of the leading pioneers in portrait painting in the Turkish arts, this exhibit features Duran's reflections on the modernization of Turkey while preserving the traditional arts. You can visit the exhibition with over 1,000 paintings consisting of portraits, still-life paintings and landscape paintings accompanied by expert guides who offer a wealth of information about the life of the artist at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Blues Band with Bora Çeliker

The Blueseum: Blues Band with Bora Çeliker will perform a repertoire consisting of blues music from the 1940s to the present at SSM, including the classics of funk and rock and roll. The esteemed works of bands like Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles will be performed in two sessions, one at 12:30 p.m. and the second at 3:00 p.m.

Collection meetings

SSM Collections Executives Ayşe Aldemir Kilercik and Hüma Arslaner along with conservator Nurçin Kural Özgörüş will talk about the conversation methods of the collections and works that are hosted by Sabancı Family at the Equestrian Villa, a house museum, where the Sabancı family resided for years, at 1:30 p.m.

Conversation on '15 Years of SSM'

Writers of culture and the arts will be evaluating SSM as it enters its 15th year with a conversation that will host the founder of online newspaper Sanatatak, journalist and art critic Ayşegül Sönmez, Editorial Director of Doğan Kitap, Cem Erciyes; editorial director of Hürriyet Kitap Sanat, supplement editor of Hürriyet newspaper, İhsan Yılmaz, the functioning of SSM in Istanbul's culture and the arts life over the last 15 years will be discussed at 4:30 p.m.

Ayhan Sicimoğlu & Latin All-Stars

Ayhan Sicimoğlu & Latin All-Stars will be at SSM, celebrating the Bosporus view with Latin rhymes at 7:30 p.m. In a concert that will be held at the Fıstıklı Terrace boasting a beautiful view of the Bosporus, spectators will have a chance to dance salsa, mambo, bolero and cha-cha while enjoying a stunning view.
