Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger is on red alert after Borussia Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan was given a contract ultimatum. Wenger is ready to pounce after being made aware of Gündogan's potential availability in a 16-million-pound deal, according to the Mirror. Gunners boss Wenger is a long-time admirer of the German international and has come close to signing him twice in the past. Dortmund want Gündoğan - who has just 18 months left on his current deal - to commit himself to a new contract or they are prepared to sell him in the summer. But it is believed agents are sounding out potential clubs in January and Arsenal are now watching developments closely. The German media have reported that Gündogan does not want to sign a new contract with Dortmund and that he fancies a move to the Premier League. Arsenal already have established links and Gündoğan was No1 on their list to be a defensive midfielder.
