As Fenerbahçe get closer to the top two teams, Başakşehir and Beşiktaş, in the Super League standings after five consecutive wins, Moussa Sow has become one of only several footballers who have scored a perfect hat trick, scoring with both the right and left foots in addition to a header
The Yellow Canaries, who had made their worst start in their Turkish league campaign history this year, have won their fifth consecutive match in the Spor Toto Super League on Sunday, stunning Çaykur Rizespor 5-1 on the Black Sea team's home turf. What is more, is that their Senegalese striker Moussa Sow became one of the few footballers to ever net a perfect hat-trick in a match. Sow scored against Rizespor with his right foot, left foot and head to claim a perfect hat trick. He is now among the world's star strikers such as Michel Platini, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jimmy Hasselbaink as one of the very few players to pull off the feat. The only other footballer to net a perfect hat-trick in a Turkish league match is former Galatasaray footballer Burak Yılmaz, who now plays in China. Sow, at the same time, has become the only footballer to score a hat-trick in the 2016-17 season. Very happy after the match, Sow said, "It was a very good night for me and Fenerbahçe. Strikers want to score every time they get the ball. I become very unhappy when I cannot score. I want to thank everyone for supporting me."Fenerbahçe's store Fenerium has launched new "Sow jerseys" on which the Senegalese's star's name and number is written upside down, referring to his famous bicycle kicks.
Fenerbahçe coach Dick Advocaat criticized archrivals Beşiktaş's coach Şenol Güneş after the Black Eagles manager complained about the match schedule, saying, "There is no point complaining about the schedule. We are under the same conditions. What we must do is prepare for matches well."Thanks to consecutive wins, Fenerbahçe has reduced its point deficit with the top two teams, Medipol Başakşehir and Beşiktaş. With Fenerbahçe bagging another three points against Çaykur Rizespor, the points difference with league leaders Medipol Başakşehir has been cut to six. In Saturday evening's clash, Beşiktaş and Medipol Başakşehir shared the spoils with a score of 1-1.
The two Istanbul teams, who have yet to be defeated in the league, only allowed other contenders to get closer, however, with the score, Başakşehir remained top of the league with 30 points and Beşiktaş stayed put in second place with 28 points. They are followed by Fenerbahçe with 24 points.
Rizespor's coach Hikmet Karaman complained about the referee's decisions saying, "Fenerbahçe's second goal was offside. We finished the match, which we started very well in, badly. We must control our rivals better." Fenerbahçe defender Şener Özbayraklı said, "We needed this win. We have a very difficult match ahead of us against Beşiktaş next week. If we beat them, we will be the biggest candidate for the league title."
Fenerbahçe managed to win a match in which they came from behind 1-0 for the first time in 568 days. The last time they won coming from behind 1-0 was against Sivasspor on May 9, 2015, winning 3-2. With the win against Rizespor, Fenerbahçe have also become the top scoring team in the Spor Toto Super League.
