An open air museum: The Luxor Temple

Located on the east bank of the Nile the Luxor Temple gives us a glimpse into the history of ancient Egypt.

The temple was constructed in 1400 B.C. and is known as the "southern sanctuary."

Unlike any other temple in Egypt, this one was not dedicated to a god or a pharaoh.

Its function is described as the "rejuvenation of kingship," and was probably the place where the new pharaoh was crowned.

The temple was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
