Flamingos paint Türkiye's Gediz Delta pink in spring migration

Flamingos have flocked to the Gediz Delta as they spend the spring season in this vital wetland, located on the Mediterranean-Black Sea migration route, Izmir, Türkiye, March 10, 2025.

Known as one of the largest deltas in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Gediz Delta is a biodiversity hot spot where the Gediz River flows into the sea, just west of the Gulf of Izmir.

These striking pink birds, with their elegant long legs and curved beaks, are among the most prominent species in the region, drawing attention from birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. The delta’s shallow waters and rich ecosystem provide an ideal feeding ground for flamingos, which feast on small crustaceans and algae that give them their vibrant color.
