First finalists for Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 revealed

The first finalists for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 awards have been revealed, after over 50,000 photographs from 92 countries were submitted for this year's competition.

A total of 100 stunning photographs made it to the final exhibition, which will be run by the Natural History Museum in London, beginning from October 20.

A jury of international experts will then choose the winning pieces based upon their "creativity, originality and technical excellence," the official website said, adding that the selected images would be announced on October 17.

So far, only 13 of the finalists have been announced – featuring images like an arctic fox carrying an egg, a bald eagle and a Sumatran tiger cub.

Last year's overall winner was photographer Tim Laman, who won the prestigious "Entwined Lives" award for his orangutan image taken with a GoPro.
