During the humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip, thousands of people left temporary shelters and camps to return to what's left of their homes. Displaced Gazans, carrying their children and belongings, embarked on their journey homeward, loading donkey carts with their possessions.

The United Nations estimates that approximately 1.7 million out of 2.4 million people in the region have been displaced, and more than half of the homes are presumed to be damaged or destroyed.
