Regarded as the prior condition for a healthy life, physical activity has many benefits when it is done in the morning. An increase in sleep quality, endorphin production (happiness hormone), a reduction in stress, accelerated metabolism and weight control are among the benefits of early morning exercise.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter, Turkey Sports Physicians Association administrative board member Professor Metin Ergün M.D. said wrong eating habits and lack of movement in daily life due to the development of technology decrease people's life quality. To start the day fit and conserve energy all day, Professor Ergün noted that morning exercise is a must. He emphasized early morning physical activities reduce the risk of getting chronic diseases. He further informed that physical activity and exercise decrease blood pressure and put blood values in order and develop insulin sensitivity in the long term.
Moreover, he stated exercise protects bone mass in old people and decreases the risk of broken bones caused by falling down. "Physical activity postpones biological ageing, boosts the body's resistance against environmental effects and helps people get on with their daily routines more easily," said Ergün.
He pointed out that early morning exercise improves sleep quality, adding, "Studies show that early morning exercise invokes a deep and quality sleep during night. For this, short walks or riding a bicycle is enough, instead of two or three hour-long heavy exercises. Furthermore, it has been revealed that physical activities in the morning reduce the use of sleeping pills and the need to drink alcohol."
He also underlined that early morning exercise helps the metabolism work better and added that starting the day with exercise is effective for burning calories. He said that in this way, the body mass index decreases, adding, "Due to the effect of sun light, the biological clock and sleep on weight control, early morning exercise is crucial. Biologically speaking, physical activity positively affects weight in itself."
