Scientists and researchers are using software developed by neurosurgeons to fight Alzheimer's disease. A recent study at Cambridge University found that the software stimulates the memory center of an Alzheimer's patient and helped reduce symptoms by almost 40 percent.
The study used the software on patients for a month and the results were quickly observed. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. For the majority of the world, human life expectancy is now longer than ever before mostly due to improvements in medicine, socioeconomics and living conditions.
As we age and live longer, we come face-to-face with diseases that old age brings with it. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia. It begins with behavioral changes, continues with memory loss, and as it progresses with other neurological symptoms, eventually leads to death.
