Potassium deficiency causes feebleness in muscles and means that you run out of energy faster during exercise. Ice-cream, consumption of which increases in summer months, is a great source of potassium and Vitamin A, experts have stated.
Assoc. Prof. Tülay Özcan, from Uludağ University Faculty of Agriculture Department of Food Engineering and Technologies of Milk and Dairy Products Technology, stated that the potassium rate in the bodies of people who are busy with various sports decreases below the normal limit during summer months and added, "Potassium deficiency results in weakness and tiredness in the muscles and early exhaustion of energy during exercise. In these cases, people can easily compensate for potassium loss by consuming ice cream."
Stressing that vitamin A is important to bodily growth and repair, Özcan said, "As it is a calcium-rich product, ice-cream is also highly rich in vitamin A. In cases of vitamin A deficiency, a person faces vision disorders, delay in bone development, urinary tract infections and flaky and spotty skin. This deficiency can be easily compensated with ice cream consumption."
