Phaselis: Unique combination of history, nature

by Anadolu Agency

ANTALYA Jul 11, 2017 - 12:00 am GMT+3

Turkey's antique city of Phaselis in Antalya's Kemer district attracts both local and overseas tourists with its historical ruins, stunning beach and natural beauty.

The history of the city goes back to the year 309 B.C. While exploring the rich history of the city, visitors can enjoy the blue water of the Mediterranean.

Every year, more than 100,000 tourists visit the city in Turkey's southern Mediterranean resort city of Antalya.

Located around 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Antalya's city center, Phaselis can be reached both by motorway and waterways.

The city - which was famous for producing perfume in the antique era - offers a historical journey among the ruins from the Greek and Roman period.

Picnic spots are also available for visitors.

Lena Werner, 29, a tourist from Germany, who visited the city with a tourist group for the first time, expressed her enjoyment to Anadolu Agency (AA).

"This place is very nice. Historical ruins on the one hand, and natural beauties on the other hand. It's special to have a swim amid antique remains," she said.

Vedat Cubuk, who traveled to the city from the Turkish capital Ankara, said he visits the city every year to spend his holidays.

"Beaches with no waves are among the reasons families choose this place. The sea is neat and clean, water is as clear and pure as physically possible. I think this unique beauty of our country needs to be advertised in all corners of the world."
